Mailing List Community Rules

Our aim for the ICTI discussion list is to provide a forum for information exchange, discussion and debate. We have created these Mailing List Community Rules to foster an environment of shared values, mutual respect, honesty and trust.

ICTI reserves the right to take further action if required our community rules are broken:

1. Be concise:

  • Short, well-structured concise posts are harder to write, but easier to absorb.
  • To ensure your posts are concise and to maximise their value, please snip any superfluous content from posts that you are replying to.

2. Keep the focus:

  • Keep the content of discussions on the topics about the ICTI cluster itself, general ICT themes and related issues - e.g. topics related to running an ICT business.
  • Information about jobs should only be posted to the Jobs mailing list (see below).
  • Discussions without a clear link to these themes are not welcome, neither are discussions on religion and other matters that may be offensive.
  • Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.

3. Be responsible:

  • You are responsible for any content you post. Where it relates to an existing discussion topic or article, ensure that it is relevant and will prove useful to other members taking part.
  • As a poster and participant, you are responsible for copyright and trademark infringements in your messages. Please do not post material in your messages unless you yourself have the legal right to do so, or have received permission from the author or owner.
  • Instructions by the moderators are to be followed.

4. Show respect:

  • Please be polite and respectful towards other members of the community, and remember that others may not always share your point of view. Disruptive, offensive, defamatory or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated. Remember: a debating style that may seem acceptable to you, may be intimidating or insulting to others.
  • Please consider other users at all times when using ICTI’s mailing lists. Behaviour that deters other members from engaging with the community is not welcome. Allow other members to contribute and do not dominate any discussions. This is identified by repeatedly answering your own articles or comments, or being recognised as always the last person to comment. Complaints about members showing this behaviour will be taken seriously.
  • Be nice to each other and respect the moderator. Profanity and insults will not be tolerated. If you have a problem with another member, take it off-line or turn to the moderator.
  • Links to content of a questionable nature, asking for, or offering such content in any way or form is not tolerated.

5. Don’t spam:

  • Whilst some relevant advertising is allowed when in the form of an information service to members, blatant or repetitive advertising is not welcome.

6. Be honest:

  • Anonymous registrations, multiple identities per member and pseudonyms that conceal your identity are not welcome.

7. Advertising jobs and other employment opportunities:

  • Please only use the Jobs mailing list for advertising jobs and other employment opportunities.
  • Be aware, that prospective employers and employment agencies must ensure that advertisements for job offers are expressed in clear, accurate and definite terms. Please refer to NSW Fair Trading for further information if you are unsure of your obligations.

8. Action we will take if people abuse these rules:

  • In the unfortunate event of any member abusing the community in any of the ways above, they are liable to being barred from the community for a period determined by ICTI. Should they return after this barring and continue to behave in ways not in keeping with these rules, they will be permanently banned from the ICTI mailing lists.
